North Sea ESDV Change Out

At Prism Energy, we have decades of experience operating on pipeline projects across the North Sea and beyond. Our project managers are actively involved in various pipeline projects, including pre-commissioning, pigging, inline inspection (ILI), isolations, maintenance, and decommissioning.

Below is an overview of an ESDV change out scope we completed in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Description

We designed, manufactured, and installed temporary pigging facilities, which enabled a High Pressure Isolation Tool (HPIT) to be pigged and set outboard of the platform ESDV. This provided the isolation required to changeout the ESDV.

Challenges Successfully Managed

The absence of existing pigging facilities on the pipeline, required the design and installation of a temporary system. The work had to be completed within a tight schedule, leaving minimal time for planning and execution. Standard isolation options were not available, demanding a bespoke solution. Additionally, the team had to work within very tight tolerances, with the High Pressure Isolation Tool requiring to be positioned with an accuracy of just ±50mm. All of this was carried out on a high-pressure gas export pipeline.

Teamwork, vendor management and stakeholder management were key to the success of this scope. Prism Energy has a proven track record of successfully managing specialist third party vendors which proved invaluable on this scope.
