North Sea Cleaning Campaign

At Prism Energy, we have decades of experience operating on pipeline projects across the North Sea and beyond. Our project managers are actively involved in various pipeline projects, including pre-commissioning, pigging, inline inspection (ILI), and decommissioning.

Below is an overview of a pipeline inspection scope we completed in the UK sector of the North Sea.

Description

A progressive cleaning campaign was executed in preparation for an ILI (inline inspection), coordinating closely with multiple line entrants and the pipeline operator to ensure optimal line cleanliness ahead of the inspection run.

Challenges Successfully Managed

The project faced several operational challenges, including the need to coordinate with multiple line entrants and plan around adverse weather conditions. Access to the receiver platform required special arrangements, as it is typically unmanned. Additionally, the low-flow nature of the pipeline reduced cleaning efficiency, while complex geometry featuring multiple Y-sections and the presence of wax bedding further complicated the cleaning process.

Good communication with the vendors and Prism Energy’s extensive knowledge in pigging operations ensured the most efficient cleaning programme was adopted and the risk of a stuck pig was minimised.
